Registration

The Victoria Police entrance examination is delivered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), an independent national research organisation, on behalf of Victoria Police.

ACER is responsible for the administration of the entrance examinations and provides results directly to Victoria Police. Victoria Police manages all other recruitment stages.

The entrance exam is delivered to both police and protective service officer (PSO) applicants.

How to register

  1. Register with Victoria Police and receive your invitation to sit the entrance exam and a unique Applicant ID number

  2. Visit the ACER portal

  3. Create an account

  4. Select your preferred role: police or PSO

  5. Select your test date, time and method

  6. Pay the exam fee and for any practice tests you choose to purchase

When completing your online registration, select the day and session that is most convenient for you. Make sure you allow enough time to prepare and practice.

  • A current photograph

  • A photo of your ID document

  • A valid and monitored email address

Fees

The fee to sit the Victoria Police entrance examination is $275 (incl. GST) and is paid directly to ACER at the time of booking through the ACER portal.

Late rescheduling fees

If you are unable to attend your booked assessment, and it is 72 hours before your start time, you can pay a late reschedule fee of $104 (incl. GST) to reschedule to a later date. Payment is made in the ACER portal. This option is available up until the start time of your exam.

Reasons for late rescheduling may include illness, family emergencies or technology issues.

Non-attendance

If you book an exam session but do not attend without notifying ACER, your application to Victoria Police will be void and you risk a six (6) month delay in applying again.

Does ACER hold my credit card details?

Credit card details are not recorded or stored by ACER but are encrypted at point of capture and transmitted directly to the bank.

If I cancel my assessment can my practice materials be refunded?

No, practice materials are provided immediately after purchase and you have instant access to them. They are non-refundable. For more information see our refunds.

Rescheduling

Rescheduling is permitted up until 72 hours before your assessment. You may choose to change your assessment date, time or mode of testing. You can make your own changes within the ACER Portal by logging in as a ‘Returning User’.

Please ensure you complete your exam within the time set by Victoria Police in your invitation. You may need to seek an extension if your change is outside this timeframe.

Cancellations

If you decide to cancel your exam, you must do so at least 72 hours before your booking to receive a partial refund. Ensure you also contact Victoria Police recruitment directly to advise you wish to cancel your application.

Cancellations within 72 hours of your exam date are non-refundable.

Refunds

Registration fees for the Victoria Police Entrance Exam will be refunded upon request up to three (3) business days prior to your scheduled sitting; however, an administrative charge of $53 will be deducted.
