ACER provides all results to applicants and Victoria Police within 7 business days of the exam. ACER will advise you by email when you can access your results from the ACER Portal. You will be required to download a copy of your results to your own computer as access to the portal will be available for a limited time.
You will receive a score for each of the four (4) test components.
For the Victoria Police entrance exam, rigorous, best-practice psychometric techniques are used to transform test raw scores (the number of questions an applicant has answered correctly) and place them on a measurement scale.
The transformed scores are called scaled scores. Compared to using raw scores, this approach has a number of benefits. In particular, it is a vital equity measure that allows applicants who take different versions of a test to be compared fairly.
Multiple test forms are used for the entrance exam. Although test developers follow defined parameters, so that test versions are broadly comparable in difficulty, some differences are unavoidable. Thus, raw scores may not reflect test difficulty as well as the applicant's ability. For example, suppose applicant A and B took different versions of the same test. If B has a higher raw score, is B the stronger applicant, or was A’s test harder? Which applicant has the better performance if they both scored the same?
The analysis of exam results accounts for differences in test difficulty and places all test versions on a single scale. This ensures that all scores are directly comparable: the higher the score, the better the performance, regardless of which test version was taken.
The literacy, numeracy and digital literacy components are scored according to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) with a scale score (e.g. 111) rather than a raw score (e.g. 15/20) or a percentage correct (e.g. 75%). These scale scores are calculated using an empirically-based computerised scoring algorithm that takes into account the difficulty of the questions in the test, as well as how many questions you get correct. This determines the numerical score, which can range from a minimum of approximately 40 through to a maximum of approximately 170. The scale of possible scores is then split into different bands or levels aligned to each of the five main levels of the Australian Core Skills Framework in the Reading and Numeracy skill areas.
If you are successful, you will receive a 'Standard met' result.
Congratulations! You will be contacted by Victoria Police Recruiting within 7 business days about your next step. In the meantime, visit the Victoria Police website for more information on the recruitment process.
If you are unsuccessful, you will receive a 'Standard not met' result. You will then be permitted to have a re-sit attempt.
Scores for the literacy, numeracy and writing components are mapped against the Australian Core Skills Framework, which is the Australian Standard for literacy, writing and numeracy.
If you fail any components on your first attempt, it is your responsibility to book yourself into re-sit the failed components. There is no waiting period. You may re-sit the failed components at the next available booking.
All re-sits must be booked and sat within two (2) months from the date of your first attempt. If you fail any components of your re-sit attempt, Victoria Police will also email you to advise the status of your application.
Victoria Police allow 2 attempts per application to successfully pass all components of the entrance exam. If you failed one or more components, you will have the opportunity to re-sit. You are only required to re-sit the exam components you have failed. All pass marks remain valid.
To book a re-sit, log in to the ACER Portal and follow the instructions for booking a re-sit via the ‘re-sit failed sections’ link at the bottom of the page.
The ACER Portal will automatically display available dates. Re-sit exams are available both via online proctoring, or at the ACER test venue in Camberwell.
If selecting to re-sit at the venue, your reporting time will be coordinated based on the components you are re-sitting. Your reporting time will be displayed on your Admission Ticket, which will be available for you to download from the ACER Portal 72 hours prior to your exam.
Victoria Police require candidates to register for their re-sit within 2 weeks of receiving their results. Candidates will have two (2) months in total to complete their re-sit. If it is not completed in this timeframe, your application may be cancelled with Victoria Police.
Candidates who do not pass all failed exam components on their second attempt have to wait 6 months from their re-sit date before applying with Victoria Police again. Upon reapplication, you will be required to sit the entire exam again.
Re-sit fees
The re-sit costs are as follows and include GST.
Victoria Police Entrance Examination results are valid for a period of five (5) years from the date that you passed all components of the test. This means that if you do not complete your recruitment with Victoria Police and decide to reapply again within 5 years, you may be permitted to skip the entrance exam and use your existing results.
If it is decided that you demonstrated misconduct during your exam, ACER may withhold your results.
If you failed to pay a late reschedule fee for changing your date within 72 hours of the test booking, your results will be withheld until payment is completed.

Requests for re-marking will only be considered for the following components of the exam, and with associated costs that include GST:
You may only apply for a remark of this section after receiving a fail on your re-sit attempt.
To apply for a re-mark, you must email your request to ACER within 10 business days of receiving your results. ACER will provide instructions on the appeals process.
Re-marks for other exam components will not be considered. ACER and Victoria Police will not enter into appeals against results for the following exam sections:
Please note: You are only eligible to apply for an appeal after your second attempt
